Hello.\u202f I\u2019m Yui, and I go to Paeroa College as a Year 12 student. Term 2 is over, and we are on a two-week holiday now. It\u2019s winter here in NZ, so it\u2019s pretty chilly in the mornings and evenings. It\u2019s already been five months since I came here, and half of my life in NZ is over. To be honest, I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s already been five months since I left Japan. Today, I’ll introduce my life in NZ.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Firstly, I will introduce the classes I take. I take calculus, ESOL, geography, P.E., fitness, Maori, pathways, and food technology. My favorite subject is fitness. My fitness classmates are very kind and funny. I am the only Year 12 girl in the class, so I was worried about everything at first, but the Year 13 girls are kind and taught me everything. They always talk to me like, \u201cHi, Yui\u201d and \u201cLet\u2019s do it together.\u201d In Term 1, we usually played volleyball. My classmates were good at playing volleyball. I had only played volleyball in P.E. class in Japan, so I wasn\u2019t as good as them, but they taught me how to serve and receive. Thanks to them, I enjoyed playing volleyball with them. In Term 2, we played rugby inside. In NZ, students play sports barefoot in P.E. class, so when someone stepped on me, it was very painful. Also, it\u2019s winter now, so the floor is very cold. Almost all Kiwi people play rugby, so regardless of gender, everyone is so good at it. I had never played rugby, so it was difficult to pass the ball, but my classmates taught me how to throw the ball and the rules of the game. When I scored a try, we high-fived and they said, \u201cGood job, Yui.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Secondly, I will introduce my host family. My host family members are my host mother, father, and one-year-old younger sister. They\u2019re so kind and always tell jokes. We go to the beach and take a walk after school. At night, we enjoy playing card games and watching movies. It is really exciting every day. My host sister is so cute. Recently, she has started to say my name. I always play with her after school. When I am doing my homework, she tries to open the door and come into my room. It\u2019s really heartwarming.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On weekends and holidays, I have the opportunity to see my host mother\u2019s siblings. I usually play with their children. They are so friendly and give me a hug every time we meet. They always say, \u201cLet\u2019s play together!\u201d They mean a lot to me now. When I go back to Japan, I will definitely miss them. I\u2019m truly grateful to have been blessed with such wonderful encounters.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I was in Japan, I couldn\u2019t be honest about my feelings, and I often acted in a rebellious way toward my family. However, by spending time in NZ, I\u2019ve come to realize how important my family and friends are to me. Being away from my family for the first time made me realize how much I had taken their support and love for granted. Especially when I feel sad or anxious, the warm memories and unwavering support of my parents give me strength and help me move forward. I\u2019ve truly come to understand the meaning of the phrase, \u201cYou don\u2019t know what you have until it\u2019s gone.\u201d Now, I truly appreciate the presence of my family and understand the value of love.<\/span>\u00a0
