Hi!\u00a0I’m\u00a0Nozomi.\u00a0I’m\u00a0a Year 11 student at Bream Bay College. I live in the countryside, not in town. There is a river in front of my house.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0introduce my host family. My host mother is cheerful, hardworking, and\u00a0very kind. My host father is very funny. He always tells jokes, and he always makes me laugh. My host sister is so cute. Sometimes she is annoying, but I like talking with her. Everyone loves surprising me, and they often scare me suddenly. Every day is noisy and lively, but this is what makes this family so special and fun.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I am not good at making decisions. Often, I feel excited to try something one day, but want to give up the next day. However, during my time here, I decided to challenge myself with two things.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The first was football. At first, I\u00a0didn’t\u00a0want to join the team because I did not know the rules, and I had never played before. However, I started to feel that I wanted to join the games and do my best. Through football, I met kind and strong teammates.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The second was a sailing trip. There was a one-week program only for teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18, and my friend encouraged me to join. The cost was\u00a0very expensive, so at first, I thought about not going. However, my parents told me that I should do it, so I decided to try it. I really, really\u00a0didn’t\u00a0want to go because I\u00a0couldn’t\u00a0swim, and I was afraid of living with new people. Every morning, we had to swim in the cold ocean. After swimming, we only had about thirty seconds to wash our hair in the shower. The toilets were terrible, and the smell was like blue cheese, so there were many difficult moments. However, none of those things mattered in the end because I was\u00a0truly happy\u00a0there. We laughed every day, and on the final day, one of my friends cried and said, \u201cI don’t\u00a0wanna\u00a0go back home.\u201d That made me\u00a0very happy. I had never become so close to people in such\u00a0a short time\u00a0before.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To be honest, my recent life\u00a0had felt\u00a0just ordinary. But during that one week, I experienced so many new things. I met wonderful friends, had endless conversations every day, struggled with things I did not understand, and faced many challenges. Even so,\u00a0from the bottom of my heart, I am glad that I went on that trip.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chances do not wait for us. They pass by quickly, and whether we take them or not depends on us. If you want to change, if you want to grow, then you must reach out and take the opportunities in front of you before they disappear. Challenges help us grow.\u00a0Sometimes we fail, but\u00a0that’s\u00a0all right.\u00a0I’m\u00a0not saying we should try to fail, but we should not be afraid of failure. Even if we fail, we can always try again. That is what I remind myself of every day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lastly, I want to thank my loving family, who\u00a0support\u00a0me and allow me to experience so many things, and my second mother, who\u00a0is my mother\u2019s friend and often took care of me.\u00a0\u00a0Thanks to everyone’s encouragement, I am able to challenge myself and freely try many new things, so\u00a0please do not worry too much about me.\u00a0I am okay. Of course,\u00a0some\u00a0days\u00a0are not as exciting as others, but I am happy because I can laugh and smile every day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
