Hello, this is Moka from Waipukurau, Central Hawke\u2019s Bay.\u00a0 It has already been four months since I came here.\u00a0 I\u2019m living with my host family, Kerri and Tammy and Devyn.\u00a0 Kerri is good at cooking and I love her cooking.\u00a0 Tammy is a police officer and I often watch TV with her.\u00a0 Devyn is a very bright girl and I teach her Japanese.\u00a0 We have three dogs, Ziya, Brun and Wolf and one cat, Pumba.\u00a0 They are lovely and they make us laugh.<\/p>\n

At school, I take drama, maths, hospitality, ESOL, geography and PE.\u00a0 I like PE the best because we can play whatever sports we want.\u00a0 I\u2019m also involved in stage challenge now, which is great fun for me.\u00a0 My job is to put makeup on heaps of dancers, so it\u2019s not easy.\u00a0 I\u2019ve experienced many things that I had never done before.<\/p>\n

I have been enjoying my NZ life very much, but I\u2019ve often had a sad and hard time because of not understanding the language and how I am supposed to act.\u00a0 At first, when I asked questions to my friends and classmates, they could not understand me.\u00a0 I knew that would happen.\u00a0 However, I felt sad because I was best at English in all the subjects when I was in Japan. The more often that happened, the less confident I became.\u00a0 When my kiwi friends were talking to each other, I, of course, wanted to join them, but I could say nothing.\u00a0 I just smiled, pretending as if I understood what they were talking about.\u00a0 One day, when I was introduced to some students by a girl who is in my drama class, I was very frustrated because she said I was a quiet girl.\u00a0 I know the reason of these sad experiences.\u00a0 It was because I was not brave enough.\u00a0 I know who caused those sad situations.\u00a0 That\u2019s me.\u00a0 I looked back what I\u2019d done and found something.\u00a0 It was I who caused these situations, but I was definitely bitterly disappointed.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 It\u2019s because I knew what to do, but I couldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

I suddenly remembered a saying which was said by Emma Watson, who I love and respect the best in the world.\u00a0 That is \u201cI am inviting you to step forward to be seen and to ask yourself, if not me, who?\u00a0 If not now, when?\u201d\u00a0 This encourages me to be brave and step forward.\u00a0 I think I was stupid and made mistakes.\u00a0 However, I don\u2019t think I wasted time.\u00a0 It\u2019s because I\u2019ve learned what to do from now on thanks to those experiences.<\/p>\n

Term 2 started on 1st of May.\u00a0 I\u2019ve become used to my life here, listening to English and speaking English.\u00a0 I talk more than I did in Term 1.\u00a0 As I talk with my friends, they talk with me as their friend.\u00a0 I try to listen to them and they try to listen to me.\u00a0 When I ask questions, they absolutely answer me.\u00a0 I was afraid of what they would think of my English, but no one makes fun of my English when I try hard.\u00a0 That\u2019s what I have wanted to do.\u00a0 Now I know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.\u00a0 Making mistakes and regretting is not very bad if we make them into a process of making things successful.\u00a0 I keep trying and I\u2019ll enjoy my rest of\u00a0 time here.<\/p>\n
