Hello! \u00a0My name is Hayaka Kifune. \u00a0I go to Hastings Girls’ High School. \u00a0I\u2019m enjoying my school life here. \u00a0It\u2019s getting cold here, so I\u2019ve got an electronic blanket from my host mother. \u00a0Term 2 will finish soon. \u00a0I feel it\u2019s so fast. \u00a0In this term, I had some experiences with my band members, so let me tell you about my band.<\/div>\n

I belong to the Concord Symphonic band. \u00a0This band is for the students who have played instruments for more than 3 years, and it is for Hastings Girls’ High School students and Lindisfarne College students. \u00a0We practice at Lindisfarne College, which is located next to Hastings Girls’ High School. \u00a0We practice from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on every Tuesday. \u00a0Our school finishes at 3:10 p.m., and I stay at school until 5:30 p.m. \u00a0I practice the trumpet or talk with my friends while I\u2019m waiting.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
When I practiced with the band for the first time, I felt that it was a bit hard for me because I had to play without practice with the other trumpet players. \u00a0When I was in junior high school and joined the school band, I had to practice every day, even on Saturdays and Sundays. \u00a0I was so surprised that I only have practice once a week in this band. \u00a0However, everyone plays their instruments very well. \u00a0I want to practice more, so I play the trumpet at home after school.\u00a0<\/div>\n

On Sunday May 25th, we held a concert and played with The University of Notre Dame Concert Band, which is very famous in America. \u00a0Our band played three pieces of music alone and after that three pieces of music with The University of Notre Dame Concert Band. \u00a0The concert was awesome, and I was glad to play some pieces of music with them.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
From May 30 to June 1, I went to Auckland and participated in the National Festival. \u00a0It was like a competition. My band played on May 31st, and we played four pieces of music on the stage. \u00a0I was a bit nervous before I played, but I enjoyed playing with my band members. \u00a0I was so happy when we finished our performance and were applauded by our audience. \u00a0After that, we had our photo taken outside, and I found that I was the shortest in my band\u2026.. Anyway, I really enjoyed performing. \u00a0I could also get along with my band members, especially with the girls, more than before on those days. Unfortunately, we couldn\u2019t stay until the prize giving because we had to go back soon. \u00a0We actually went there by bus, and it took eight hours\u2026.. We heard that we got a GOLD prize on the way home on the bus. \u00a0We were so happy! \u00a0I had great time with them.<\/div>\n

By the way, I\u2019ve decided to join another brass band in Hastings. \u00a0I practice with the band \u00a0every Monday. \u00a0Last week, I went to practice with this brass band for the first time. \u00a0The members of the band are so kind to me. \u00a0I\u2019m enjoying this band practice as well. \u00a0I\u2019ll be a bit busier next term because I\u2019ll have a concert on August 3. \u00a0I won\u2019t be able to play the trumpet after I go back to Japan, so I want to enjoy playing it here!\u00a0<\/div>\n
