My Discoveries in NZ<\/div>\n

I’m Nao Fujita and I go to Central Hawke’s Bay College in New Zealand.<\/div>\n
I’ve found many differences between Japan and New Zealand since I started to live here. Today I’ll tell you about some of those things.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Firstly, I’ll write about the environment of the town where I live. \u00a0The town is called Waipukurau and it’s a small town. \u00a0I can see a lot of farms and farm animals if I go out a little bit into the country. \u00a0The scenery is very nice and beautiful. \u00a0 I can also see the wonderful sky with plenty of shiny stars and a big moon. \u00a0I can see them much more clearly than I could in Japan because most buildings here are not so high. \u00a0I feel as if I were in a planetarium. \u00a0Furthermore, people who live in my town are very friendly. \u00a0They give me their big and lovely smiley faces whenever I greet or talk to them.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Secondly, I’ll write about my life. \u00a0I can sleep much longer in New Zealand. \u00a0I get up at seven every morning and go to bed at 10:30. \u00a0My host sisters go to bed at 7:30 every night, and all of the lights are turned off by eleven o’clock at the latest. \u00a0Who does that in Japan? \u00a0After I go back to Japan, I’m sure that I will not be able to stay up as late as I did last year. \u00a0Thanks to the long sleeping time, I am very healthy. \u00a0However, there is one thing that I don’t think is good for my health. \u00a0I’m putting on weight day by day! \u00a0It’s because there are five meals in New Zealand. \u00a0People have breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner each day. \u00a0At first, I wasn’t hungry at morning tea time and afternoon tea time because we don’t have such a custom in Japan. \u00a0Now, however, I cannot help eating something during morning and afternoon tea time. \u00a0I’m always starving. \u00a0Speaking of food, Kiwis’ favorite food is fish & chips. \u00a0I see it on every menu if I visit a shop to get food. \u00a0In addition, I found another interesting difference. \u00a0The way of washing the dishes is totally different. \u00a0People in NZ don’t use any water to wash the soap away. \u00a0When they do the dishes, they use a bucket of hot and soapy water and wash the dishes in the bucket. \u00a0Then, they dry the dishes with a towel without rinsing the dishes. \u00a0It was unbelievable for me when I saw that for the first time. \u00a0Many people do use a dish washer, though.\u00a0<\/div>\n

There are many differences at school as well. \u00a0In New Zealand, many school buildings are single-story. \u00a0Students move from classroom to classroom, and they take only six subjects. \u00a0In my art class and music class, there are many skillful students. \u00a0They create their own art work or music using their sensibility. \u00a0In my math class, calculators are necessities to solve questions and they have many functions. \u00a0Also, schools in New Zealand have a pretty interesting day called “mufti day.” \u00a0Mufti means private clothes. \u00a0On that day, students go to school in clothes they like, not in the school uniform. \u00a0But the clothes should be black or red. \u00a0On this day our school looks very different and interesting. \u00a0On a mufti day, students are supposed to donate some money. \u00a0I wish Japanese schools had such an interesting event. \u00a0I think Japanese schools are solemn.\u00a0<\/div>\n

Living in another country is not very easy for me because people speak different languages and have different cultures and customs. \u00a0However, it is very interesting and special at the same time. \u00a0I can learn many new things from other viewpoints. \u00a0I’m really enjoying living here in New Zealand.\u3000Today, I eat like a kiwi, wear clothes like a kiwi and talk like a kiwi. \u00a0I’ve become KIWI-IFIED!<\/div>\n
