I started to study English when I entered junior high school. \u00a0In high school, I studied English much harder. \u00a0I studied English every day so that I could lead a successful life in New Zealand. \u00a0Before I left Japan, I set a goal : “By the time I come back to Japan, I will be good at speaking, listening, writing and reading English.”<\/div>\n
However, in spite of my four-year-study of English, I couldn’t make myself understood in English and I couldn’t understand anything at all when I arrived in New Zealand. \u00a0Actually in February and March, when I talked to my friends, they said “Ha???”, and I could not understand what they were talking about. \u00a0It was really embarrassing and I was very upset. \u00a0Also I was afraid of making mistakes. \u00a0Even so, I didn’t give up. \u00a0I never thought, “I don’t want to talk to kiwis any more.” \u00a0I do like talking in English and I always try to talk to my kiwi friends and my host family. \u00a0If I don’t understand what they are talking about or I don’t know the meaning of a word, I ask them and they explain to me with easier words so that I can understand. \u00a0Kiwi people are really kind and they never think it is very troublesome to explain it to me. \u00a0They always try to understand me and communicate with me. \u00a0I don’t think my English ability is good enough, but thanks to my host family and my friends, I can feel my English speaking and listening skills improving day by day.<\/div>\n
Now I enjoy talking not only with native people but also with other international students. \u00a0We have our own languages but we can talk in English. \u00a0It is interesting, isn’t it? \u00a0I can talk about my own county and I can learn about other countries. \u00a0It is fun to understand that there are many different cultures in the world. \u00a0I’d like to talk more with more people.<\/div>\n
On the other hands, I am not good at reading and writing English. \u00a0Every time I try to read English, I feel really tired. \u00a0Even when I get a piece of paper to read in class, I usually don’t read it. \u00a0However, when I took the geography exam, I had to read a two-page-long newspaper article. \u00a0I regretted that I had not practiced reading harder. \u00a0Of course, I could not pass the exam. \u00a0It took me a long time to read the article, so I didn’t have enough time to write down my answer.\u00a0<\/div>\n
When I came here, my host family lent me a book called “TWILIGHT” to me. \u00a0I started to read it, but it was too difficult to read it. \u00a0I had to use my dictionary many times, so I gave up reading it. \u00a0However recently I’ve \u00a0started to read it again to improve my reading skill. \u00a0I was surprised because I can read much better than before. \u00a0I feel really good! \u00a0I’ve read up to page 203. \u00a0My goal is to finish reading the book I am reading now and to start reading the twilight second series “New Moon” before going back to Japan.<\/div>\n
I usually can’t keep doing something longer than a day or two. \u00a0For example, \u00a0I had never kept a diary. \u00a0My family knows that very well. Hahaha lol! \u00a0 However, \u00a0I’ve been keeping my diary in English since I came here. \u00a0<\/div>\n
\u3000Do you know what the exams are like in New Zealand? \u00a0In New Zealand, there is a lot of free space on a test where students are supposed to write their opinions. \u00a0It means that I have to write down my opinions on a test. \u00a0Speaking of exams, guess what!!! \u00a0I made it!! \u00a0I got a MERIT on the math exam. \u00a0In Japan I hated math. \u00a0No matter how hard I studied, I could not get a good scors. \u00a0Do you think math exams in New Zealand are just to test your ability to calculate?? \u00a0NO WAY!! \u00a0We have to explain many things in English to solve questions. HAHAHA:D \u00a0If I didn’t keep my diary, I couldn’t have written down my answers and couldn’t get a merit.\u00a0<\/div>\n
I think my English skill is improving day by day. \u00a0Still there is a lot of things that I have to study. \u00a0I will keep making an effort so that I can achieve my goal which I mentioned above. \u00a0And also I keep trying to do my best to realize my dream in the future.<\/div>\n
