Kia ora!\u00a0 How have you been?\u00a0 It\u2019s Nichino from Taumarunui High School.\u00a0 There is only a month left until I return to Japan.\u00a0 It\u2019s getting warmer and I can see some beautiful cherry blossoms here and there in Taumarunui.\u00a0 The warm spring sunlight makes me happy, but I\u2019m a little bit sad because it\u2019s time to stop snowboarding, which I started in August.\u00a0 I\u2019ve made a lot of memories including happy ones and hard ones in NZ.\u00a0 Anyway, I would like to tell you about some of them.<\/p>\n

Firstly, I\u2019m going to tell you about my favourite classes, which are drama and math.\u00a0 I took drama in term 2 because I heard that drama would improve my English skills.\u00a0 Drama is an acting class.\u00a0 Let me tell you what I did in my drama class.\u00a0 In each class, groups of 5 to 7 students made one story according to the topic our drama teacher gave us.\u00a0 As you perform a play in Japan, what do you do with your friends?\u00a0 Do you write a scenario?\u00a0 Do you make memo cards to remember your lines and you practice your lines again and again until you gain confidence?\u00a0 However, what students do in a drama class in NZ is quite different from what you do in Japan.\u00a0 My friends didn\u2019t practice sufficiently.\u00a0 The practice time was too short for me to understand the content of the play and to think about my lines.\u00a0 Surprisingly, my friends played all the stories ad lib.\u00a0 Sadly, I wasn\u2019t able to keep up with them.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know what I should do, so I just kept standing and said only a few words.\u00a0 My friends gradually started to give me a role for which I didn\u2019t need to speak a lot because I didn\u2019t do anything.\u00a0 I was very frustrated and sad, but I knew it was my fault.\u00a0 One day, a turning point came.\u00a0 One of my friends suggested that I play a leading role.\u00a0 First, I hesitated to do it because I had never done it even in Japan and because I wondered what their reaction would be if I made a mistake.\u00a0 The topic of the day was \u201clove affairs.\u201d\u00a0 It was such a complex story.\u00a0 The topic also concerned me.\u00a0 Can you imagine the situation where high school students perform a play about love affairs in Japan?\u00a0 Although I was at a loss, I remembered that I had made a big goal that I would never regret anything in NZ.\u00a0 My friend and my goal gave me the courage for me to play a leading role!\u00a0 Thanks to them, I did it.\u00a0 The success in the play was one of my biggest memories.<\/p>\n

By the way, I like math class too.\u00a0 I like my math teacher because he often talks about things which aren\u2019t about math.\u00a0 I think all of them are instructive lectures for my future, so I always enjoy listening to his stories.\u00a0 After he talks, he makes sure that I understand what he has said.\u00a0 Therefore, I can make sure that I\u2019ve understood it myself.\u00a0 I have been enjoying my school life including classes.<\/p>\n

Next, I\u2019m going to tell you what I\u2019ve realized in NZ, which is the most important thing.\u00a0 It\u2019s how important my family is.\u00a0 I changed my host family twice due to circumstances beyond my control, and I\u2019ve learned a lot of things from my experience of living with different families.\u00a0 Sadly, I hadn\u2019t cherished communication with my family in Japan.\u00a0 I thought I didn\u2019t need to communicate because I expected them to understand me without talking.\u00a0 However, it was completely wrong that I didn\u2019t often say \u201cThank you\u201d to them.\u00a0 Since I came here, I have realized that kiwi people cherish their family very much and how much my family in Japan have supported me even though I hadn\u2019t noticed.\u00a0 I regret that I behaved like that in Japan, but I\u2019m happy to have realized it.\u00a0 If I hadn\u2019t come to NZ, I wouldn\u2019t have found it.<\/p>\n

I have experienced so many things since I came here.\u00a0 There was a time when I concentrated on learning English so much that I forgot to enjoy my life in NZ.\u00a0 It was hard to control myself then, but I\u2019m happy now.\u00a0 I have learned a lot of things from my host families, friends and teachers.\u00a0 I can say that this experience of my studying overseas has become a treasure in my life.\u00a0 I am full of gratitude to all the people who have supported me in Japan and NZ.\u00a0 I will enjoy the rest of my time until the 17th of November.<\/p>\n
