Hey guys, I\u2019m Miu.\u00a0 I go to Pompallier Catholic College.\u00a0 It\u2019s been eight months since we started our lives in NZ.\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe how fast time flies.\u00a0 It\u2019s getting warmer and changing to spring, but it\u2019s sometimes still very cold.\u00a0 I have experienced so many things which are all precious to me.\u00a0 I\u2019ll tell you some things that I\u2019ve done so far.<\/p>\n

First of all, I\u2019ll tell you about my school.\u00a0 I\u2019m in year 10 here.\u00a0 There are three year 10 classes and we take all the classes with my classmates except two optional classes.\u00a0 I\u2019m taking French, textiles, math, English, science, social studies, religious studies, PE, health, and ESOL.\u00a0 French and textiles are optional classes for this term and I took Drama and Food as optional classes in term one and term two.\u00a0 I especially like math because it\u2019s easy for me, so my classmates always ask me how to solve questions.\u00a0 I\u2019m not good at explaining things even in Japanese, but I always try to explain math problems to help them understand.\u00a0 I feel so happy when they understand my explanation.\u00a0 At school, I was surprised that there are a lot of students from many other countries.\u00a0 In fact, I have friends from Korea, China, Philippines and Kiribati in my group.\u00a0 We sometimes talk about our countries, so I have discovered so many interesting things from their stories.\u00a0 Also I really like their jokes.\u00a0 We always laugh together, so I\u2019m so happy to be with them.<\/p>\n

Now, I\u2019ll tell you about the hard times that I had.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t talk very much with my friends at first, so I was just listening and smiling.\u00a0 I knew it wouldn\u2019t make any changes to improve my English and that I had to change the situation.\u00a0 I tried to talk as much as I could.\u00a0 However, I couldn\u2019t make them understand what I was saying.\u00a0 Therefore, I was not able to speak confidently.\u00a0 I wanted to know why my English wasn\u2019t understandable, so I started to observe how people spoke.\u00a0 The point I\u2019ve found is that people speak with their mouths opening wider than I do and I see their teeth when they talk.\u00a0 After I started to talk like them with my mouth opening wider, the number of the times when I was asked to say things again decreased amazingly. I also found that my accent made it difficult for other people to understand me.\u00a0 I saw many people from other countries speaking with their own accent, but people understood their English while they couldn\u2019t understand my accent.\u00a0 Such an experience made me feel very sad, so I\u2019ve been trying to speak without a Japanese accent.\u00a0 It\u2019s still very hard because I have spoken English with a Japanese accent until now.\u00a0 Anyways, I really feel my English is much better than before.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t understand what people said on the first day, but I can now, and people understand what I say.<\/p>\n

My main aim of my studying in NZ was to improve my English.\u00a0 However, I\u2019ve found another problem that I had to solve and I think I\u2019ve overcome it.\u00a0 I used to think about everything too deeply and nervously.\u00a0 Because of that, I missed so many opportunities that I should have had.\u00a0 To be honest, I don\u2019t really know why and how I thought about everything so seriously now.\u00a0 I\u2019ve become pretty calm and able to take things positively.\u00a0 I mean I try everything when I\u2019m interested.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to regret not trying something.\u00a0 It is much better to regret something after I\u2019ve done it.\u00a0 I always keep that thought in my mind.<\/p>\n

Next I\u2019ll tell you about Kapa Haka, which is Maori\u2019s traditional performance of dances and songs.\u00a0 I was very glad to be able to join the Kapa Haka club.\u00a0 I missed the chance to join it in term one, but fortunately, there was another chance to start joining Kapa Haka from term two.\u00a0 I definitely wanted to do it.\u00a0 Practicing Kapa Haka was very hard for me at first because people around me had been practicing since the beginning.\u00a0 Moreover I didn\u2019t know any songs or dances, so I had to memorize everything that the other students had already known.\u00a0 I think Kapa Haka was the busiest club because we practiced so hard for the competition, which Pompallier Catholic College was going to participate in for the first time.\u00a0 I had a very tough time, but I didn\u2019t give up.\u00a0 I\u2019ve decided to accomplish whatever I started until the end.\u00a0 I did my best, and at the end, I was chosen to be in a front row for the competition.\u00a0 I was so impressed with our performance.\u00a0 Also many people praised me after the performance.\u00a0 It was an extremely remarkable time.\u00a0 Actually, Kapa Haka was the best experience that I could never do in Japan.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve got so many amazing opportunities through the experience of living in NZ.\u00a0 I\u2019ve recognized the importance of my family and people who support me.\u00a0 I appreciate them all.\u00a0 Thanks to them, I am spending a precious life, so I want to cherish the rest of my time in NZ.\u00a0 I want to proudly say \u201cTadaima\u201d when I see my family in November.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to make more and more memories in the rest of my time here and I\u2019m looking forward to talking about everything to you all!\u00a0 Thank you for reading my essay \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
