Hi, everyone! I\u2019m Riko. A month and a half have passed since I came here. I\u2019m living in Te Kuiti, which is a nice and small town. I sometimes see two girls who came to our class at Jin-ai as exchange students for a month last May though they have already graduated from high school. I also met a girl who studied in my older sister\u2019s class at Jin-ai two years ago! Anyway, I\u2019d like to share my daily life here with you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Firstly, let me tell you about my wonderful host family. I have a father, who works at Te Kuiti High School, which I attend, a mother, who is also a teacher at primary school and a brother, who attends TKHS as Year 11. They have one big dog and one cat. I hated animals in Japan but I have come to be able to touch them here! I sometimes ride in the car with the dog!! If my family and friends in Japan know this, they will be surprised. Now, I don\u2019t hate animals. I just don\u2019t like them (haha). At home, I cook dinner once a week and wash dishes or dry them on other days. I enjoy talking with my host family and I\u2019m so glad to live with them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next, I\u2019m going to write about my school. I walk to school with an exchange student from the Netherlands because my host father has to go early. However, when I go in his car, I join the breakfast club. In this club, students can have breakfast for free. It\u2019s an interesting club, isn\u2019t it? I take six subjects as Year 12 and one of them is music. In this class, I practice the piano and I have just started playing the trombone. I had never played a brass instrument before, so it\u2019s difficult but fun to play. School sports clubs will start soon and I\u2019m joining the basketball club and the netball club. By the way, there was mufti day at school the other day. Every house sang the school song, did a chant and haka. I saw haka with my own eyes for the first time and I was very impressed. It was a cool day for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is a lot of fun in my life here as I wrote above, but actually I still haven\u2019t got used to a new environment and I\u2019m facing lots of problems every day. I\u2019m worried about making friends, I am disappointed with my English ability and I feel homesick. I sometimes think I want to give up and stop trying but I have never done this. I always try to think positively such as \u201cif I overcome this difficulty, this will help me in the future\u201d and \u201cif I try hard now, I\u2019ll absolutely enjoy and improve myself later.\u201d Before I came here, my friends, my teachers and especially my family gave me a lot of encouragement. Their encouragement make me think I have to do my best not only for me but also for them. I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll face more difficulties but I\u2019ll try everything without being afraid of making mistakes. To be honest, writing this essay was harder than I had expected but I believe this will also be helpful to me someday. When I write an essay next time, I hope I\u2019ll be able to tell you that I\u2019ll be really enjoying my life here. Thank you for reading.<\/span><\/p>\n
