Hi, I’m Haruka from Cullinane College.
My host family consists of my host mother, my host brother, two dogs, and two cats. My host mother has a lot of hobbies, and she has taught me various things such as baking and knitting. My host brother is really funny and loves animals. On my birthday, they took me to a Japanese restaurant. I was so happy to eat my favorite karaage and sushi on my birthday, and I thought it was amazing that both of them could use chopsticks so well. Also, my host mother gave me a cute necklace as a present. I think it will be a treasure for life.
Until July, I also had a Brazilian international student as my host sister. She was very kind, and I felt as if she were my real sister. I loved spending time relaxing with her. She often watched Disney movies, and she looked just like a Disney princess. I hope I can see her again someday.
My host sister, who lives outside of the home, and her son often come over to our house. My host nephew is at the cutest age, and he’s really adorable. They are all so kind, and the days I spent with them are precious and unforgettable memories.
School life hasn’t always been easy, but there are many kind and funny people. Many people are interested in Japan, and I can spend a fun time with them. Anime and games are especially popular. Some of my friends recommended anime I had never seen before. I really liked one of them, and the pose in the photo is from that anime. Many people also know some Japanese, and they often showed me Japanese memes popular on the internet. My host school doesn’t have Japanese classes, but I was very glad when a boy who had been learning Japanese through an app told me, “I think I will take Japanese as a subject next year.”
I have to go back to Japan soon, and I have mixed feelings about it. I want to see my family in Japan as soon as possible, talk to them, and show my appreciation, but at the same time, I also want to spend more time with my host family and friends here. I’m truly grateful to all the kind people I’ve met in New Zealand, my parents, grandparents, younger sister, teachers, and friends who have supported me. Some of my New Zealand friends have said they will visit Japan, and I want to proudly show them around and introduce them to the cool things in Japan.

私のホストファミリーの家族構成は、ホストマザー、ホストブラザー、犬2匹、猫2匹です。私のホストマザーは多趣味な方で、私にスイーツ作りや編み物などたくさんのことを教えてくれました。ホストブラザーはとても面白い人で、動物が大好きです。私の誕生日には日本食レストランに連れて行ってくれました。誕生日に大好きな唐揚げやお寿司が食べられてとても幸せでした。あと、二人共箸で上手に食べていてすごいなと思いました。更に、ホストマザーは私にかわいいネックレスをプレゼントしてくれました。それは一生の宝物になると思います。
7月までは、ブラジル人留学生のホストシスターもいました。彼女はとても優しくてまるで本物のお姉ちゃんのようでした。彼女とゆったりと一緒に過ごす時間が大好きでした。彼女はよくディズニーの映画をみていて、彼女自身もまるでディズニープリンセスのようでした。またいつか彼女に会いたいです。
ホストシスターと彼女の息子もよく遊びにきます。ホスト甥っ子は可愛い盛りでとっても可愛いです。みんな優しい人たちで、彼らと過ごした日々は忘れられない大切な思い出となりました。
学校は楽しいことばかりではありませんでしたが、優しくて面白い人たちもたくさんいました。日本のことに興味も持ってくれている子達が多くて、彼らと話す時間はとても楽しかったです。特にアニメやゲームが人気です。彼らにおすすめされて初めて見るアニメもありました。私はその一つがとても好きになって、写真のポーズもそのアニメのものです。日本語を知っているひとも多くて、ネットで流行った日本のミームなどを見せにきてくれることもよくありました。
私のホストスクールには日本語の授業はありませんが、日本語を自主的にアプリで学んでいた子が「来年から日本語の授業を受けることにしたよ」って言った時はすごく嬉しかったです。
あと少しで私は日本に帰らなければならず、日本に帰りたいような帰りたくないような複雑な気持ちです。日本にいる家族には早く会いたいし、たくさん話したいし、感謝も伝えたいですが、ニュージーランドにいるホストファミリーや友達とももっと一緒にいたいです。私はニュージーランドで出会えた全ての優しい人たち、これまで支えてくれた両親、祖父母、妹、先生方、友達に本当に感謝しています。日本に会いに行くと言ってくれているニュージーランドの友達もいるので、今度は私が彼らに日本を案内したいです。
